On April 29th, Aptitude took the Main Stage at the BITKOM eIDAS Summit in Berlin. Philippe Nieto, deputy director of Aptitude, delivered a keynote to an audience of digital identity experts, policymakers, and industry players from across Europe.
Six months in, Aptitude has grown into a coalition of more than 141 public and private partners across 13 countries, all working together to bring the EU Digital Identity Wallet to life in real, everyday situations.
Philippe walked the audience through the four use cases that Aptitude is testing across Europe. From a digital passport that works at the border, to hotel check-ins and student travel perks, to sharing your car registration digitally, to safer banking authentication the wallet is being tested across some of the most common situations citizens face when they travel, move, and pay.
A real-life Digital Travel Credential (DTC) border test is planned for May 2026 in the south of France, bringing together border control authorities and airport partners to put the digital passport through its paces.
