On 12-15 May 2026, Abidjan, Ivory Coast hosted ID4Africa, the leading international forum on digital identity and digital public infrastructure, bringing together more than 2,000 public decision-makers and experts from over 100 countries. Aptitude was represented by Florent Tournois, coordinator of the Aptitude consortium, who took the stage to present the European Digital Identity Wallet vision and the progress made within the Aptitude consortium.
ID4Africa is hosted this year by the Ministry of Interior and Security of Ivory Coast under the theme “Digital identity: from DPI to public digital ecosystems.” The discussions confirmed that the conversation around trusted digital identity is accelerating globally, and that cooperation between regions will be essential to build secure, interoperable and citizen-centric ecosystems.
The exchanges at ID4Africa confirmed what Aptitude has been building towards since day one: Digital identity is no longer purely a technical topic. It is becoming a strategic infrastructure for trust, sovereignty and digital transformation.
Several themes resonated strongly with the international audience. The EUDI Wallet is much more than a digital ID application. It is a complete trust ecosystem built around interoperable credentials, user control and secure digital interactions. Mr. Tournois walked the audience through the European obligations introduced by eIDAS 2.0 and the work being carried out within the Aptitude consortium to meet them. Interoperability is essential, and cross-border trust requires common standards, large-scale testing and strong cooperation between public and private stakeholders. Adoption will come through concrete use cases: travel, payments, proof of age, student cards, driving licences and healthcare credentials are already shaping the next generation of digital services across Europe.
Aptitude is entering a decisive phase, with interoperability events, cross-border testing and progressive deployment scenarios planned over the coming months.
