From 27 to 29 May 2026, France Titres organised a three-day PhotoID interoperability testing and showcase in La Ciotat, France, followed by operational experimentations at Marseille Provence Airport. The event brought together public authorities, standardisation experts, airports, industry representatives, Wallet providers and interoperability partners to test and demonstrate how PhotoID-based digital travel credentials can support secure identity verification in real-life conditions.
The testing focused on PhotoID, which supports the storage, transmission and verification of a holder’s portrait as an electronic attestation. The initiative explored how PhotoID can be used in identity-related scenarios connected to the future European Digital Identity Wallet ecosystem.
During the event, technical teams prepared and presented their solutions, including applications, presentation tools and verification systems. Interoperability tests were then carried out to assess how solutions developed by different actors could exchange and verify digital identity information. The showcase also illustrated concrete use cases linked to travel, identity checks and border-control scenarios.
A key part of the initiative took place at Marseille Provence Airport, where volunteers used France Identité in operational airport and border-control environments. The experimentation included Digital Travel Credential (DTC) Verifiable Credentials based on PhotoID, real Wallet interactions, passenger-flow scenarios and verification processes involving airport and border-control settings.
The event also highlighted the importance of cooperation between public authorities, standardisation experts, airports, border authorities, Wallet providers and industry partners. Such collaboration is essential to support future digital identity solutions that can work across different systems and national contexts.
Through activities such as the PhotoID interoperability testing and showcase, Aptitude continues to support the advancement of trusted digital identity solutions and the preparation of real-world use cases for the future European Digital Identity Wallet ecosystem.
