Aptitude took part in DICE 2026 in Copenhagen, from 22 to 24 June 2026, joining the European digital identity community for discussions on the infrastructure, policy and practical deployment challenges shaping the future of digital identity across Europe. The 4th Digital Identity unConference Europe combined a European-focused identity programme with two days of Open Space unConference sessions, supporting practical exchange on government wallet rollout, interoperability, privacy and digital identity ecosystems.
Florent Tournois, Aptitude Project Coordinator and Head of the France Identité, joined the panel “Rolling Out Government Wallets”. The panel brought together participants from France Identité, the Danish Agency for Digital Government, the German Federal Agency for Breakthrough Innovation and the Moldovan e-Governance Agency to discuss how different states are approaching the rollout of government wallets.
The discussion explored existing identity infrastructures, levels of digital readiness and national deployment strategies, while F. Tournois shared the French experience with France Identité, the deployment of the EUDI Wallet and lessons learned from large-scale experimentation through Aptitude.
Key themes included adoption, interoperability, privacy-preserving use cases and the coexistence of public and private wallets. The discussion underlined that wallets need to provide useful and trusted everyday services to support adoption, while interoperability across borders and sectors was also highlighted as essential.
Privacy-preserving use cases such as age verification, selective disclosure and digital travel credentials were presented as increasingly tangible. In this context, large-scale experimentation through Aptitude contributes to validating standards, identifying remaining gaps and supporting secure, interoperable and user-centred digital identity solutions.
