On 10 September 2026, representatives of Latvia’s Ministry of Smart Administration and Regional Development participated in the SK ID Solutions Developer Breakfast 2026, bringing together digital identity experts, technology companies and public-sector representatives.
During the panel discussion “Digital Identity Wallets in the Baltics: Where Are We Today and Where Will We Be in 2027?” participants discussed the current state of EUDI Wallet implementation in the Baltic countries, expected developments towards 2027 and how the EUDI Wallet will coexist with existing electronic identification solutions.
The Latvian representatives presented the role of the European Digital Identity Wallet within Latvia’s national and the wider EU digital identity ecosystem. A key message was that the EUDI Wallet is intended to complement, rather than replace, existing electronic identification solutions, while providing additional possibilities for secure and interoperable cross-border use across the EU.
Latvia’s ongoing work on its national EUDI Wallet and its participation in EU Large-Scale Pilots were also presented. In this context, Aptitude was highlighted as an important opportunity to test the EUDI Wallet in real cross-border scenarios, including payments and vehicle documents.
Through Aptitude, Latvia is able to test interoperability, security and usability in practice and use the lessons learned to support the development of its national EUDI Wallet solution.
