As Europe moves toward a unified digital ecosystem, the European Commission has introduced its proposal for European Business Wallets, a key initiative under the 2025 Digital Package and a major step for the WE BUILD project – the Wallet Ecosystem for Business and payments. The proposal aims to simplify compliance, cut administrative burdens and enable secure, trusted digital identification across borders.
European companies, especially SMEs, spend too much time on paperwork. The European Business Wallets aim to change that by offering harmonised, legally recognised digital solutions for identification, authentication and secure data exchange across the EU.
By centralising identity and administrative communication in one EU-wide wallet, companies will be able to operate more easily across all Member States. Tasks currently requiring in-person visits or paper processes will be fully digitalised, reducing delays, increasing accessibility, and saving substantial costs.
Built on the architecture of the EU Digital Identity Wallet, the Business Wallets follow principles of technological neutrality and interoperability, ensuring flexibility and compatibility with existing systems.
These measures will open new opportunities for growth and competitiveness for European companies, while promoting Europe’s standards of fundamental rights, data protection, safety and fairness. While it focuses on the citizen EUDI Wallet, Aptitude welcomes this step toward a more efficient and interoperable digital Europe.
