“Meet the People of Aptitude” introduces the experts and innovators working behind the Aptitude project, one of Europe’s large-scale pilots testing the European Digital Identity Wallet in real-life conditions.
In this interview, we meet Florent Tournois, Project Coordinator and Head of France Identité Program at Agence Nationale des Titres Sécurisés (ANTS) in France. He shares how cooperation across Europe is helping build secure digital identity services and what the first real-life use cases will demonstrate.
Why is the Aptitude project a key step for Digital Europe?
“Now we are at the very beginning of the second round of larger scale pilots in Europe. Aptitude is one of the two consortia in Europe right now, with the other consortium name WE BUILD. We are launching this consortium with very important use cases for citizens: travel and payments.”
How does cooperation between the various countries and partners work?
“In each country, we have different ways of thinking about digital credentials and digital identity. It is important for us to share experiences and develop cooperation, because in Europe citizens move from one country to another and need to use digital credentials across borders. So cooperation is the key.”
What are the first concrete use cases you want to demonstrate?
“There is not one use case, there are many use cases. One of the key promises is travel. Travel involves several steps onboarding, check-in and border control. If we can help people travel smoothly, it is a good thing for everyone.”
What would you like people to take away from this launch?
“I would like people to go forward with energy and cooperation, and the idea that we are building something big together.”
The Aptitude project brings together partners from 11 EU Member States and Ukraine to test the European Digital Identity Wallet in real-life scenarios such as travel, payments and digital services. The goal is to make digital identity secure, trusted and citizen-controlled, while ensuring services can work seamlessly across borders.
