20/05/2026

Aptitude was featured during the event “Building France’s Digital Future: the Strategic Role of the European Digital Identity Wallet”, organised by The Payments Association EU in Paris on 19 May 2026. The event brought together policymakers, industry representatives and digital identity experts to discuss the future of the European Digital Identity Wallet (EUDIW) and the role of large-scale pilot projects in supporting its implementation across Europe.

A key contribution to the discussions came from Florent Tournois, Project Coordinator and Head of France Identité Program at Agence Nationale des Titres Sécurisés (ANTS) in France, who participated in the sessions addressing ongoing developments surrounding EUDIW and the evolving European digital identity ecosystem.

The discussions highlighted experiences emerging from European initiatives such as EWC, WE BUILD and Aptitude, with particular focus on payment functionalities, interoperability between Member States and the broader role of digital wallets in enabling secure and seamless digital interactions across Europe.

Session 1 focused on the evolution of wallet-based payment functionalities under eIDAS 2.0, exploring implementation progress across Member States, opportunities for public-private cooperation and the potential impact of wallet-enabled payments on both consumers and merchants. The panel also examined how initiatives such as WE BUILD and Aptitude contribute to advancing interoperability, security and user experience within the future European digital identity ecosystem.

Session 2 explored the broader societal potential of the EUDIW, including use cases related to online age verification, secure access to public services, digital tax interactions, residency procedures, healthcare access and financial inclusion. Discussions also highlighted the importance of privacy-preserving technologies, strong security standards and building public trust around digital identity solutions.

The event further reinforced the importance of collaboration between governments, European institutions, industry stakeholders and large-scale pilot initiatives in shaping a trusted and interoperable digital identity ecosystem across Europe.

Through its ongoing activities and pilot use cases, Aptitude continues to contribute to the development, testing and advancement of secure, interoperable and user-centric EUDIW solutions across borders.
