On 27 and 28 May 2026, Lisbon hosted the LisbonID Conference 2026, two days of conferences, exhibitions and networking exploring the future of digital identity. Aptitude was represented by Florent Tournois, coordinator of the Aptitude consortium.
The conference explored six themes: trusted IDs for all, AI-powered fraud detection, proof beyond doubt, the power of decentralised identity, the future of identity, and interoperability. These themes reflect the growing complexity of the digital identity landscape and the urgency of finding shared solutions at European and global scale.
On the first day, F. Tournois delivered a talk titled “From eID to Wallet: Adoption, Trust, and Impact”, providing an operational overview of the EU Digital Identity Wallet and the shift introduced by eIDAS 2.0 towards a wallet and digital credential-based architecture. F. Tournois drew on the French experience with France Identité and its already deployed use cases including authentication, driving licence and identity verification, as well as the large-scale pilots conducted within Aptitude.
F. Tournois also joined the panel “Interoperability in Production: What Breaks and How to Scale”, alongside Carlos A. Pina, Yann Bouan and Ivan Marin, moderated by David Kelts. The discussions highlighted that interoperability is no longer only a technical topic but also an operational, governance and trust challenge at European scale. Three conditions for scaling up emerged as central: standardisation, interoperability and user adoption.
One of the highlights of the event was a concrete demonstration of digital credentials in action. An automated badge verification device installed at the conference entrance allowed participants to instantly verify and validate their badge with a simple scan, illustrating how wallets and digital credentials can progressively integrate into real-world environments. This connects naturally to real-life scenarios Aptitude is working towards across its use cases.
