Aptitude Project for Digital EU Identity Kick-off Meeting is taking place in Paris, 22–23 October 2025

17/10/2025

The Aptitude project, the new European Large-Scale Pilot on Digital Identity for Citizens, will officially launch with its Kick-off Meeting in Paris on 22–23 October 2025.

Gathering representatives from 12 countries and more than 115 public and private partners, the event will bring together European institutions, Member States, research organizations, and industry stakeholders to set the stage for two years of collaboration toward designing, testing, and deploying European Digital Identity Wallets (EUDI Wallets) across EU.

Setting the Stage for Europe’s Digital Identity

Over the next two days, participants will engage in high-level sessions, workshops, and live demonstrations addressing Aptitude’s vision, objectives, and roadmap. Discussions will focus on interoperability, compliance, and European regulation as key principles guiding the project’s implementation.

Objectives

At the Kick-off Meeting representatives of the project consortium will:

  • Present Aptitude’s vision, objectives and highlight the roles of Member States and partners in advancing Europe’s Digital Identity framework.
  • Launch the four new Digital EU Wallet pilot use cases — Digital Travel Credentials, Tickets and Check-in, Mobile Vehicle Registration Certificate (mVRC), Payments and Banking — setting the foundation for their implementation and testing.
  • Emphasize the importance of interoperability, compliance, and European values, which lie at the heart of a trusted and inclusive digital identity ecosystem.
  • Foster discussions amongst partners and stakeholders to encourage collaboration, knowledge sharing, and alignment on the project’s priorities and technical roadmap.

Agenda Highlights

On Day 1, the focus will be on the project’s strategic vision, its main goals and timeline, the regulatory framework presented by the European Commission, and a comprehensive overview of Aptitude’s work packages, followed by interactive workshops and discussions on implementation and compliance.

On Day 2, the agenda includes live EUDI Wallet demonstrations, Member States’ updates, and interoperability sessions under the EUDI Wallet initiative, covering topics such as banking flows and age verification. The meeting will conclude with a roundtable discussion, an orientation vote, and a Steering Committee session for Member State representatives and Work Package Leaders.

As Aptitude officially begins its journey, this kick-off event will mark a milestone in Europe’s collective effort to deliver a secure, user-friendly and interoperable Digital Identity Ecosystem for all Europeans.
