EDI – BLSP Meet Up showcases real-world EUDIW use cases in the Netherlands

18/05/2026

On 2 April 2026, the EDI – BLSP Meet Up took place at Jaarbeurs Utrecht, bringing together stakeholders from across the Dutch digital identity ecosystem. The event was organised by the EDI-stelsel NL programme and the Bureau Large Scale Pilots (BLSP), commissioned by the Dutch Ministry of the Interior and Kingdom Relations.

The meet up provided an overview of ongoing developments within the Dutch EUDI framework, alongside practical demonstrations and insights from the European Large Scale Pilots (LSPs). Discussions covered governance structures, certification frameworks and the establishment of key components such as the Conformity Assessment Body (CAB) and the register of wallet-relying parties, all of which are essential for building a trusted digital identity ecosystem.

A key highlight of the event was the contribution of the City of Amsterdam, which presented its experience with user testing and pilot wallet implementations. As a participant in the Aptitude consortium, the city showcased a Travel Wallet use case, demonstrating how users can rent bicycles or scooters across Europe through secure identity verification and selective data sharing. The presentation offered valuable insights into user expectations, usability challenges and the practical deployment of wallet solutions.

Further sessions explored the role of EUDI wallets in consumer payments, presented by the Dutch Payments Association, including use cases such as strong customer authentication, account-to-account transactions, tokenised card payments and age verification. These activities are also being explored through WE BUILD, highlighting the growing importance of wallet-based solutions in the financial sector.

In parallel, the NL Wallet Community and the “Tot Uw Dienst” innovation project demonstrated how wallets can streamline public service delivery, significantly reducing administrative processes and improving user experience.

The event also featured a presentation on the European Business Wallet (EBW) by the Dutch Ministry of Economic Affairs and Climate Policy, highlighting its potential to simplify business data exchange, reduce administrative burden and enhance fraud prevention across Europe. The discussion emphasised the complementary role of EBW alongside EUDI wallets, particularly in enabling secure and efficient data sharing for businesses.

Overall, the meet up illustrated the rapid progress of digital wallet ecosystems at both national and European levels. Initiatives such as the Large Scale Pilots, including Aptitude consortium, continue to play a key role in testing real-world use cases and supporting the development of interoperable, trusted digital identity solutions across Europe.

The next EDI – BLSP Meet up is scheduled to take place on 21 May 2026.
