EUDIW Unfold Interop Week advances testing of the European Digital Identity Wallet ecosystem

13/03/2026

Between 2 and 6 March 2026, the EUDIW Unfold Interop Week brought together stakeholders from across the European digital identity ecosystem for a week of interoperability testing focused on the European Digital Identity Wallet (EUDIW). The initiative included remote testing activities throughout the week, as well as in-person proximity testing sessions held on 4 5 March in Angers, France.

The interoperability sessions are part of EUDIW Unfold, an open collaboration space originating from the France Identité ecosystem. The initiative aims to facilitate cooperation between public authorities, private organisations, and developers working on the implementation of the European Digital Identity Wallet by enabling practical experimentation, knowledge exchange, and cross-border testing.

Ahead of the event, an introductory webinar held on 23 February 2026 presented the objectives of the interoperability sessions, the testing approach, and the timeline leading up to the event.

During the Interop Week, participants worked together to test different types of digital identity credentials, including Personal Identification Data (PID), Mobile Driving Licences (mDL) and age verification credentials. These tests explored how digital wallets, credential issuers and service providers can interact smoothly across systems.

The testing activities included both remote interactions and proximity-based scenarios, such as QR code or NFC-based exchanges between digital wallets and service providers.

To support the process, participants used a dedicated reporting platform where organisations could register their technical components, coordinate testing activities with other participants, and record the outcomes of interoperability tests.

Through collaborative testing sessions such as these, the EUDIW Unfold initiative aims to support the practical implementation of the European Digital Identity Wallet and help prepare interoperability across European countries.

Aptitude supports initiatives that advance interoperability and collaboration within the European digital identity ecosystem. Efforts such as the EUDIW Unfold Interop Week contribute to the shared objective of enabling secure, interoperable and user-centric digital identity solutions across Europe.
