Through ARTE, Portugal continues to advance its digital transformation with the Digital Business Wallet. This feature, available in the gov.pt app, enables companies to securely manage key corporate documents in one place. This initiative reflects Portugal’s commitment to providing modern and user-centric digital public services.
Launched in January 2026, the wallet allows legal representatives to access and manage essential business documentation digitally via the Digital Mobile Key, supporting faster, paperless and more efficient administrative processes.
The solution brings together important corporate records, including:
- Electronic Company Card,
- Tax Status Certificate,
- Social Security Status Certificate,
- Central Register of Beneficial Ownership.
All documents are automatically updated, hold full legal validity and can be verified through QR Code technology.
The Professional Attributes Certification System, accessible on the gov.pt app, allows company managers and directors to simplify administrative procedures, reduce bureaucracy, eliminate paper-based processes, facilitate faster participation in public procurement processes and strengthen digital compliance.
A strong early adoption
The initiative has already demonstrated strong early adoption. Within its three months of operation:
- more than 36,518 documents were added to the wallet
- over 10,275 companies started using the service
- more than 10,205 Electronic Company Cards
- 9,438 Tax Status Certificates were issued
- 9,650 Central Register of Beneficial Ownership documents were issued.
From PT Business Wallet to the EU Business Wallet Journey
Beyond its national impact, the initiative also highlights the growing importance of business-oriented use cases within the European Digital Identity ecosystem. Secure access to company credentials, verified documentation and representative mandates demonstrates how digital wallets can simplify interactions between businesses and public authorities, reduce administrative burden and support trusted digital services across Europe.
Examples like this reinforce the importance of initiatives such as Aptitude, which supports the development of trusted wallet ecosystems across Europe.
