On 21 May 2026, participants from Aptitude and WE BUILD came together in Utrecht with organisations involved in the European Digital Identity ecosystem for a BLSP-EDI meeting focused on trust, certification and robust digital security.
Bringing together more than 80 participants, the meeting provided a valuable opportunity to exchange knowledge and share experiences on key topics for the European Digital Identity ecosystem. The discussions focused on how to develop the NL Wallet in a way that is easy to use, while remaining as secure and trustworthy as possible.
Certification was one of the main areas of discussion. Presentations explored how certification schemes can support interoperability, reliability and demonstrable compliance with established requirements. Both technical and organisational aspects were addressed, highlighting the importance of clear processes and shared standards in building trusted digital identity solutions.
Robust digital security was also a key focus of the meeting. Speakers discussed current challenges related to information security, resilience and risk management, emphasising that trust is not built through technology alone. Transparent processes, clear responsibilities and effective collaboration between organisations are also essential for developing a secure and reliable digital identity ecosystem.
The meeting also offered space for questions and discussion. During a panel session, participants exchanged views on legal frameworks, planning and implementation timelines, reflecting the practical challenges involved in moving from policy and technical design towards real-world deployment.
For Aptitude, the meeting underlined the importance of ecosystem collaboration in advancing the European Digital Identity Wallet. Exchanges such as these help connect national developments, pilot activities and cross-border requirements, supporting the broader objective of building secure, interoperable and user-centred digital identity solutions across Europe.
The next BLSP-EDI meeting will take place on Wednesday, 23 September 2026, at the Luxor Theater in Rotterdam.
