Our missions
Aptitude is more than a technology project. It is a European journey towards a common goal: creating a trusted, user-friendly ecosystem for digital identity.
Simplify
daily life

by making digital services accessible across borders.
Strengthen
trust and security

in every online and offline interaction.
Ensure European
interoperability
so citizens and businesses benefit from a unified digital market.
At Aptitude, we believe that digital trust is the foundation of tomorrow’s Europe. Our ambition is simple: empower citizens, businesses, and public institutions with secure, easy-to-use digital identities that make everyday life simpler and safer.
We are building a future where crossing a border, proving your identity online, or making a payment abroad can be done with the same confidence as at home.

Who we are
Aptitude is a European alliance of public institutions, experts, and innovators working together to build the future of digital identity. Coordinated by France’s National Agency for Secure Documents (ANTS), and joined by 11 EU Member States and Ukraine, we are shaping the European Digital Identity Wallet.
Our goal is simple: make digital identity secure, practical, and human-centered — from digital passports to smarter payments — always guided by European values of trust and privacy.

What we do
We turn the vision of a European Digital Identity Wallet into real-life scenarios. Aptitude is currently testing concrete use cases designed to make citizens’ lives easier:
- Digital Travel Credentials (DTC): a secure digital version of the passport, enabling faster, smoother border checks.
- Smart Ticketing & Check-in: a single, trusted tool for booking and checking into travel, with discounts integrated for students and other groups.
- Mobile Vehicle Registration Certificate (mVRC): a digital car registration that can be shared instantly with third parties across Europe.
- Payments with Strong Customer Authentication (SCA): safer and simpler online transactions, fully aligned with European standards.
Each experiment is tested in real-life conditions to ensure interoperability across countries and to put users at the center of innovation.
Our values
Behind the technology, Aptitude is guided by three simple principles:
- Trust & Security – ensuring privacy, safety, and full compliance with European values.
- Innovation for People – designing tools that serve citizens first, making digital identity useful in daily life.
- European Cooperation – bringing together governments, businesses, and researchers to build a shared, borderless future.
